On July 25, the Underground becomes the Punderground. Beltway Pundits is DC's very own pun competition, where quick-witted contestants do their best to make the audience laugh. (Or groan. Hey, it's puns.) The first event is the Pun Battle: A dozen contestants will deliver their prepared pun speeches. And the evening closes with the Punger Games, a quick-draw punning tournament that anyone in attendance can enter. Come out and word play!

Entering the contest: Want to compete? We're saving a few spots in the Pun Battle event for fans of Dupont Underground. E-mail chris@dcimprov.com for more information. And if you want to duke it out in the Punger Games, you can sign up on-site the night of the contest.

Laura Powell is the producer of Beltway Pundits. The veteran travel journalist first displayed her proclivity for punditry as a writer/producer for CNN, where her scripts for feature stories were regularly met with eye rolls. From such humble origins, Laura has gone on to compete in the O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships, where she notched a Top Ten finish. She is also the creator of #ManicPunday on Twitter and Pundit-in-Chief for www.dailysuitcase.com.
